Virgin Islands Territorial

Association of REALTORS® (VITAR)

The Virgin Islands Territorial Association of REALTORS® (VITAR) is the leading voice for real estate in the U.S. Virgin Islands. With over 390 members across St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John, VITAR is deeply committed to promoting property ownership, community development, and affordable housing opportunities for Virgin Islanders and clients around the world.

At VITAR, we know that homeownership isn’t just about property—it’s about opportunity. We help Virgin Islanders improve their financial stability, grow family legacies, and take pride in their communities. Through advocacy, education, and partnerships, we’re working to build a stronger, more affordable future for all.

Our Mission

To support and grow real estate activity that empowers Virgin Islanders, strengthens communities, and creates generational wealth through property ownership.

Who We Are

We are local REALTORS® who live, work, and invest in the Virgin Islands.

We give back by supporting nonprofit causes, hosting educational real estate fairs, and mentoring the next generation of Virgin Islands real estate professionals.

We believe that increasing homeownership among Virgin Islanders builds stronger families and stronger futures.

We have formed a dedicated Apprenticeship Task Force to identify and assist locals who want to enter the real estate profession—offering training, support, and help with startup costs.

We work side-by-side with policymakers to revitalize historic properties and pass legislation that creates incentives for affordable housing development.

Helping Homebuyers Succeed

Buying land or a home in the Virgin Islands can be complex—but VI REALTORS® are here to guide you every step of the way. Through our Buyer Broker services, we help homebuyers:

Understand the entire process—from first step to closing

Build the right “homebuying team” of experts, which may include:

Mortgage brokers or lenders

Surveyors and home inspectors

Title companies and attorneys

Insurance providers and contractors

Tax professionals

Our REALTORS® stay committed and involved—often for 1 to 2 years—until a buyer successfully closes on their dream property. We don’t get paid until that moment, which means we’re just as invested in the success of the buyer as they are.

Innovative Housing Construction Summit

The Innovative Housing Construction Summit is a multi-part campaign focused on solving one of the most pressing challenges in the Virgin Islands: the lack of affordable housing. Led by the Virgin Islands Territorial Association of REALTORS® (VITAR) and supported by local government, private partners, and national grants, this summit brings together the people, policies, and innovations needed to build homes that our community can truly afford.

Across the Virgin Islands, high construction costs, outdated building codes, and limited access to financing have made it nearly impossible for everyday residents to find affordable homes to rent or buy. At the same time, the rise of short-term vacation rentals has reduced the availability of housing for local families, contributing to a rise in homelessness and housing instability.

This campaign is not just about conversation—it’s about action. Through a series of events, hearings, hands-on demonstrations, and collaborative meetings, we’re gathering all the voices that matter: builders, tradespeople, architects, regulators, lawmakers, students, and residents. Together, we’ll explore modern building materials, cost-saving techniques, new financing options, and smarter housing policies that reflect the needs of our people and our environment.

The Summit is powered by community and fueled by a vision: a future where everyone in the Virgin Islands has a safe, sustainable, and affordable place to call home.
