The Innovative Housing Construction Summit was founded with a simple but urgent truth in mind: the Virgin Islands has a housing crisis, and the same approaches that got us here won't get us out.
Led by Senator Marvin Blyden and the Virgin Islands Territorial Association of REALTORS® (VITAR) and backed by a grant from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), the IHC brings together builders, families, policymakers, financiers, and community members — all united around one goal: making safe, affordable homes a reality for every Virgin Islander.
This isn't a government program or a corporate initiative. It's a grassroots coalition shaped by the people who live and work here — people who know that our islands deserve better, and who are ready to build it.

How we got here and where we're going.
2024 The Campaign Begins
VITAR secures a grant from NAR to launch the Innovative Housing Construction Campaign, with Sen. Marvin Blyden joining as the legislative champion and chair of the VI Senate Housing Committee.
October 2025 Inaugural Summit on St. Thomas
The first Innovative Housing Construction Summit draws hundreds of residents, builders, and officials to St. Thomas for a day of education, demonstrations, and dialogue on affordable construction.
November 2025 Summit Comes to St. Croix
The second summit at the UVI Great Hall on St. Croix draws a packed crowd. Over 600 attendees across both islands hear from government agencies, private lenders, and construction innovators.
The 2026 Summit on August— Bigger & Bolder
Building on the momentum of 2025, the 2026 Innovative Housing Construction Summit returns — Aug 13 on St. Thomas and Aug 15 on St. Croix — with expanded programming, new speakers, and a sharper focus on action.

WHO WE ARE
The Innovative Housing Construction Campaign and Summit (IHC) is led by the Virgin Islands Territorial Association of REALTORS® (VITAR) and supported by grants from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). This initiative was created to address one of the most urgent challenges in the Virgin Islands today—affordable housing.
With housing costs rising, outdated construction methods, and limited financing options, far too many Virgin Islanders struggle to find safe, affordable homes. The IHC brings together a coalition of leaders, industry experts, community members, and government stakeholders to introduce new solutions that make housing more accessible and sustainable.

Why It Matters
The housing crisis in the Virgin Islands affects families, workers, and the community at large. Between 2022 and 2024, homelessness increased by 18%—driven largely by the lack of affordable, long-term housing. The IHC exists to reverse this trend by shaping a future where every Virgin Islander has access to safe, affordable, and resilient homes.
